Sakyamuni Caves Monastery Engages with All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia (APPGM) for Sustainable Preservation
Efforts in a landmark development on March 19, 2024, representatives from Sakyamuni Caves Monastery convened with members of the "All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia (Leave No One Behind)." This is the first official meeting of resident monks and representatives to engage in constructive dialogue with the APPGM. This rendezvous follows the group visit of 3 key representatives from APPGM to the Sakyamuni Caves Monastery last year, wherein efforts were made to comprehend and firsthand witness the lifestyle and challenges faced by the cave monks. Building upon the insights gained from this visit, the March 19th meeting proved to be fruitful, facilitating a comprehensive exchange of perspectives.
During the session, the resident monks provided the APPGM team with an in-depth understanding of their livelihoods and reiterated their earnest commitment to safeguarding and conserving both the monastery and the revered Gunung Kanthan. The discourse highlighted the monastery's pivotal role as a cultural and spiritual sanctuary, emphasizing the imperative of preserving its heritage for future generations.
An overarching outcome of the meeting was the formulation of a "Very Important Message," intended for dissemination to key stakeholders. This message carries significant weight as it will be presented to Malaysia's Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Tambun. Additionally, the message will be conveyed to the upper echelons of YTL Cement, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts between governmental bodies and private enterprises in advancing sustainable preservation initiatives.
