Most Holy Father: As faithful Catholics around the world, we are urgently and sincerely requesting the removal of retired Belgian Cardinal Godfried Danneels from serving on the Synod on the Family. His presence at this Synod sends a destructive and misleading message which undermines the sanctity of marriage, the protection of children and the sacredness of the family. During his 30 year reign as prelate of Belgium, he oversaw the rapid decline of the practice of the faith, concealed clergy sex abuse of children, and condoned and undermined the moral teachings of the Catholic Church. His presence in the Synod on the Family sends, at best, a confusing and dismissive message to clergy sex abuse victims, parents, and families. We are requesting that you remove Cardinal Godfrieds Danneels forthwith from the Synod on the Family.
