The Issue

Mental health struggles are at an all-time high. With a high of 39.7% of students suffering from mental health issues and depression, mental health has become a serious problem. Suicide rates and alarming mental health rates keep increasing, causing students to forget about their education, and parents and students lose trust in schools' mental health departments and schools in general. Schools worldwide have been releasing more data about said problem, yet no solution has been found. A leading cause of the problem is the lack of funding for the mental health department. The scarcity of counselors causes a backup within the department, which leads to students feeling abandoned and unwanted.

As a student from Parkway Central, I urge Parkway Central High School to increase funding towards mental health, so there can be an increase in student counselors and a noticeable decrease in students with mental health issues. The outcome would build trust with students and schools and heal the rift that had been broken.  Sign this petition and show your support for not only students and Parkway Central but also schools nationwide. This would urge the board of education to value everyone's opinion and try to increase funding to save the kids!
