Hello fellow citizens and animal lovers. As many are aware , there is a desperate NEED for our county to hire a full-time Animal control officer.  Below is the job description of an ACO. As you can see , there's so much more involved than "being a dog catcher" .  As it currently is here in Sullivan Indiana, these responsibilities  are either being totally ignored or mishandled.  Not because of not wanting to , but due to the fact that our law enforcement are understandably just not able to take on the proper steps due to their growing crime caseload of human offenders.  Therfore, not only are the citizens left to put up with the growing number of at-large animals , but it isn't fair to the animals being neglected.  We have a Humane society yes, but it isn't their job to handle these calls and generate logs as well as  potential legal work as neaded.  

To our commissioners, sheriff and whomever else :

PLEASE, hire and train an individual who's sole responsibility is to handle these situations. 

 Investigates reports of cruelty or inhumane treatment to animals. Impounds animals and/or initiates legal action. Answers telephone, takes reports of lost and/or stray animals, and responds to questions regarding shelter animals and adoption procedures.
