A small but intrepid band of demonstrators gathered this morning at the base of Harvard Avenue and proceeded, masks donned and signs in hand, up through the Farmer's Market. We were momentarily detained by a seemingly well intentioned employee for illegal sign carrying, but after conferring with his boss, we were allowed to proceed. After a pleasant walk of a few minutes we arrived at CMC President's house and picketed on the easement for about 15 minutes. Several well-wishers engaged us, and one older gentlemen astride his bicycle and adorned in full spandex stopped to tell us we all wished death upon our children and that they should stay home with their mothers like his kids did. Sadly, President Chodosh did not emerge from his stately residence to engage with us. So, we left our signs taped to the trees in the easement. Shortly after we disbanded, 2 uniformed gentlemen arrived in an imposing white king-cab pick up truck, marked only with "The Claremont Colleges Campus Safety 909-607-2000." They proceeded to collect photographic evidence of the signage, and of my license plate. A brief call to that number revealed that they had been called in to protect the safety of the President and College property.
