Stop changing the floor in Sri Parthasarathy Swamy temple, Tiruvallikkeni
The Issue
Recently, there have been proposals by the administrative body of Sri Parthasarathy Swamy temple, Tiruvallikkeni (Triplicane) to replace the existing floor made of rocks with glazed marble floor and to build an enclosure in front of Sri Vardarajar sannidhi.
Do we really need these changes??
1. Sri Parthasarathy Swamy temple is an ancient temple built during the Pallava reign. There are inscriptions which date this temple to more than 1000 years of age. So, looking at it as a historical monument, its original structure shall not be disturbed.
2. The existing rocky floor does not get heated quickly when exposed to sunlight. Even then, the floor gets warm during noon in summer. In such a scenario, the new flooring which heats up more quickly, is surely going to heat up more easily making it difficult for devotees to walk over it.
3. The ultra smooth texture of the new stones and their deceiving colour will not reveal the presence of water on the floor and might cause a person to skid. This poses a big risk to senior citizens, disabled and young children.
4. Presently, the Vimanam of Moolavar sannidhi can be seen only from this empty space in front Sri Varadarajar sannidhi. If an enclosure is to be erected at this place, it will make it impossible to get the Darsanam of Moolavar Vimanam within the temple.
5. This enclosure cannot be used to conduct any ceremony, function or ritual. According to Agama, no personal ritual or ceremony can be performed beyond the Dwajasthambam of the temple. Only Vaidika rituals of the temple can be performed. So even if the administration plans to use this space for conducting such events, it is something which is violating the Agama sastra.
It is also suggested that temple renovation cannot happen according to our whims and fancies. It has performed during Balalayam and Samprokshanam has to be performed suitably.
Due to all these reasons, it has been decided to forward a petition to Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments in order to suspend this work considering the above reasons. All those who are willing to support this cause can participate in this online signature petition.
