Petition of No Confidence of Martha Guise - Appeal to Hillsboro School District Board
The Issue
We, the parents, students and concerned citizens of Century High School in the Hillsboro School District, petition the Hillsboro School District Board of Directors to remove Martha Guise, due to her abuse of authority and mismanagement of power, from her position as Century High School Principal effective immediately. We believe Ms. Guise has lost her ability to focus, lead and place the welfare of children, teachers and parents first. We submit to you the attached signatures for a petition of no confidence of Martha Guise.
We have no confidence in Martha Guise ability to lead Century High School. She does not demonstrate leadership skills needed to problem solve, lead a faculty and follow ethical code of conduct in her role as Century High School Principal. Ms. Guise is not advocating on behalf of the students or her staff. Her lack of leadership and care of students is damaging not only the morale of the students but the teachers as well. She has created a hostile work environment for the students without providing them with requisite support and care.
There is an unusually high rate of resignations of head coaching positions at Century HS, currently seven and many more teachers. This points to deeper problems created by the current schools leadership. Ultimately a climate of instability and lack of solid leadership, affects teacher and student morale and distracts from the important job of educating our children.
Ms. Guise has displayed inconsistencies when it involves sports and her involvement. When she attends Century Football games she has been observed by several parents ‘shushing’ the Century Pep section, not allowing Century students to cheer as loud as the opposing team. Students lose their sense of pride in school when they are stripped of showing spirit. After inquiring about Coach Mac stepping down, there were numerous parents that shared this is a common practice with Ms. Guise in other extracurricular activities. Please allude to the attached comments.
It’s upsetting that Ms. Guise can remove Head Football Coach duties from Sean McMenomy without addressing the students or community. When reviewing the job description on the Hillsboro School District website, Mr. McMenomy is well qualified to retain this position. He has made remarkable improvements to the football program and the growth of the young men and women of the football team. They are devastated that their beloved coach was let go. The community and sponsors are exasperated with the abuse of power displayed by principal Martha Guise. This is a direct exploitation of Sean McMenomy’s work in the football program. This is one of many examples that the Century High School students, staff and parents have experienced over a course of her tenure.
We need our spirit back. Go Jags, #JAGFAMILY.
The kids deserve better, the staff deserve better.
Signed,
Century High School parents, students and community
