I saw Cllr Julian Bell, leader of Ealing Council, just by coincidence, outside of MP Virendra Sharma's office on King Street in Southall, this afternoon. I took the opportunity to ask him about the site visit. He said it went well and talked about quarterly meetings involving FM Conway, pollution control officers from both councils, The Environment Agency, affected businesses and residents. It may be a positive way forward but I am not overly optimistic, based on what I have been told about forums that take place at a local sewage treatment works. Residents in the area still experience ongoing odour.
He also mentioned other polluters in the area. Sorry, I can't recount what was said because my listening skills diminished greatly at this point as I thought "not that old chestnut again." FM Conway are very good at implicating their competition.
He also said that he is due to meet Cllr Ray Puddifoot, leader of Hillingdon Council, on 6th February 2018.
The odour in Old Southall has been particularly bad today due to the windy conditions and this is something that Cllr Bell was aware of, as he cycled along Western Road in Southall.
I think that I am particularly sensitive to the odour as I have being experiencing a burning sensation in my nose, throat and chest all day and if I am away from home, for the weekend or longer I don't experience the same symptoms.
I hope that you all have a peaceful and relaxing weekend.
