Good morning, happy Sunday! We’re published!

Candidly speaking, this is not my favorite article. It captures about 10% of what was in the guest column I originally proposed, and maybe 15% of what the editor and I discussed. But the point was to make it succinct so people would read it, and we accomplished that much. Mike Morris (mayor) and Damian Lechner (zoo director) both provided a response, and I clearly ruffled some feathers As uncomfortable as that is for me, I know it’s a necessary step to enact change. Obviously the zoo’s stakeholders don’t want to transfer the animals to a wildlife sanctuary! Who is this chick anyway!?

I am deeply grateful to everyone who has signed so far. It was scary to approach you all with a plea for help when I know that we are all *bombarded* with passionate call-to-arms daily about issues in the world. I know we’re all exhausted by it all, so it means that much more to me that we got over 500 signatures in the span of about a week. In an ideal world, we wouldn’t need to form a unified voice on behalf of the animals because we never would have relegated them to subordination and restrictive living conditions. But we have, so *thank you* for helping me speak with one loud, collective voice advocating for these animals to have the life they deserve.

I’ve learned so much already, and it’s only up from here. Thank you for helping me help them. I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your weekend
