Everyone should know by now that we are all in a pandemic. It’s hard to deal with especially if relatives or people we know have gotten covid. So what makes schools think that students are prepared to “learn” when we have a pandemic going on? The Washoe County School District was not prepared and I personally understand that but they had three months to prepare for this school year and they decided to wait till a week before school started to actually put people in classes. It’s hard enough not being in class to learn but now teachers are just assigning way too many assignments. Some don’t even have to do with the lesson. The teachers were not prepared and neither was the school district and they should have been since they knew students were going back to school. Students who normally have good grades are failing due to the school’s new education systems. Seniors are failing and they don’t have another year to get another chance. Many students have stayed up all night getting 5 assignments that are due in the same day done but still not getting a grade change. Students aren’t even learning anything and failing because they do not understand the work. The school system did not get it together for us and I’m afraid that they won’t next semester. Since the school system was unprepared and didn’t do anything to truly help students, I would like to start a petition to help students have a pass for the fall semester of 2020. Why should students grades suffer from the school system not getting it together for us? Plus we are in a pandemic. That’s hard enough to deal with. Even letting students get another month to at least get some stuff turned it would help. By letting this happen students will have hope for next semester and hopefully the school system will make changes for students. This would also save students grades due to covid and the schools mistake of not getting the new education system ready in time for students. It could help give students another chance. I would like to note that this petition is not for slackers and people who generally don’t do schoolwork. This petition is for students who are truly struggling.
