Save Glen Onoko Trail

The Issue

The Game commission of PA decided to close down the hiking trail for Glen Onoko on May 1. The trail that leads to a beautiful overlook and waterfall in Jim Thorpe PA . They are choosing to close it due to injuries and deaths.

Throughout the trail there are numerous signs that state to hike at your own risk . There can be safety measures added to ensure the safety of hikers and family’s that choose to hike the trails. Even closing off the hard trails and leaving the easy ones open can ensure safety while hiking .

This petition effects me because it’s a place of tranquility for me at Glen Onoko . As a photographer and a mother taking my children to experience places like this means everything. I’ve hiked Glen Onoko while pregnant and still made it without any problems. So many people are quick to avoid solutions and close things off rather than trying to find a way to make it safer and keeping a place for families to visit. Big corporations always tell you they are not liable if you get injured at their store , they throw out warnings and if we don’t heed that warning then that’s on us. What’s the difference in nature when there are clearly signs posted with warnings .

Moral of the story is if you’ve been to Glen Onoko or have planned to visit in the future help save the trails from being shut down.
