Message from Cllr Paul Ezhilchelvan, Cramlington South East Ward
As part of planning application 17/00499/OUT for several hundred houses in Blyth the “Planning Gain” element of the outline housing proposal – namely the Section 106 Agreement allocates funding to Highways England for a scheme to mitigate traffic in Cramlington.
The scheme submitted by Highways England to the Council does not carry the support of Cramlington Town Council or indeed local elected members in Cramlington for a scheme to create a “bus gate” at Moor Farm roundabout.
I am calling upon Northumberland County Council to continue to withhold planning consent for housing in Blyth until the traffic issue at Moor Farm roundabout is resolved.
I am calling on Northumberland County Council to advise Highways England that their scheme to create a “bus gate” on the mini roundabout at Moor Farm will have adverse impact on local residents and wider access issues for the hospital and thousands of people living in houses who use this access currently.
I welcome investment into the road network but only following full public consultation and a complete rejection of a bus only roundabout scheme.
Whilst I understand these ideas from Highways England are at an early stage, they must be advised they are unacceptable to local people and the local Council. Therefore Highways England must engage with local people and politicians to get solutions which work, not crazy schemes which carry overwhelming opposition from everyone in the second biggest town in Northumberland.
