Let's stop councils from surfacing the roads with gravel. It's dangerous for motorcyclists

The Issue

Hello

Our roads are being maintained by many councils in a cheap and dangerous manner. For too long and with increasing frequency they have been 'dressing' our roads with gravel. Not only is this uneconomical, it also doesn't make sense. The '20 mph skid risk' signs are there purely to absolve the councils of any claims by motorists for damage to their vehicles caused by loose chippings. Drivers in company vehicles, older cars, works vans and lorries seldom adhere to the speed restrictions resulting in the gravel being flung into people's properties, at other road users and at pedestrians.

It is particularly dangerous for cyclists and motorcyclists. There have been many incidents where our two wheeled friends have skidded, lost control and been bombarded with this hazardous stone.

I'm sure there are many of us who use the roads and pay good money for the privilege who are now fed up with their expensive vehicles being ruined and in the case of bikers, losing control and being seriously injured.

Please sign this petition. Let's get OUR roads Tarmac treated again, After all, we are paying for them!

Thanks, Peter.
