Planners at Highland Council have imposed the building of a "Bus Gate" between Raigmore Hospital and Raigmore estate on the NHS as a condition of their building the "Life Sciences 2" building.
Local residents are fighting this mad scheme that would involve the cutting down a dozen 200 year old oak trees to clear a route that would then snake around the hospital site for the doubtful "benefit" of getting a few more buses.
Please see below the information from the campaigners. Please contact councillors THIS WEEK if you want to help them stop the felling of trees and the increased traffic congestion the bus route would bring.
Dear Inverness, Raigmore Estate, friends and supporters please help to save our trees and environment.
Please read and reply to Highland Council
The Highland Council proposed to link the Hospital Site with Raigmore Estate for so called traffic improvement.
This construction will require the removal of long-established trees(12 over 200 year old) with resulting detriment to local biodiversity, amenity and wellbeing;
It will bring increased level of road traffic through the cul-de-sac Estate with resulting detriment to local residential amenity, safety and wellbeing (noise, toxic diesel pollution), next to local school playground and in 5 meters from pensioners bungalows.
The cost will be incurred, both by the council (500k) and by NHS HIGLAND (amount still not known)-public money
If you disagree with this proposal NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT!!!

EXAMPLE LIST OF MATERIAL OBJECTION
…Noise, pollution, disruption which will be caused by the increase in traffic on our residential streets; currently well used residential parking amenity.
…Increased danger to children playing and safe active travel to local Raigmore Primary School
…Adverse impact on residential amenity, “unreasonably and substantially interferes with use or enjoyment of a home” (part iii of Environmental Protection Act(1990)
…non-compliance with ”Transport system that meets everyone’s needs, respects our environment and contributes to health and well being”(Environmental Noise (Scotland)2006 Directive)
…No regard appears to have been paid to either the Scottish Government’s 2013 ‘2020 Challenge for Scotland’s Biodiversity’ strategy document or the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, the creation of this new road to facilitate a busgate is in direct contravention, because the creation of the busgate is detrimental to biodiversity.
…There are no needs assessment or justification for this proposal and no ecological data available to ensure informed consultation.
…The natural woodland area is a well utilised amenity for local dog walkers and people from outwith the immediate neighbourhood, and provides habitat and sustenance for local wildlife including protected species eg. Bats, red squirrel, hedgehog.
These are just a few.
