Petition updateReopen Inverness streets to trafficSuccess. Councillors agree to clear barriers

Hello,

We can partly celebrate but there is still work to do.

Councillors yesterday voted to remove the dreadful scheme around the Castle so Castle Street, Bridge Street and Castle Road will return to normal. The sting in the tail is that a council officer tried to sway the vote by saying it would take months to reverse what took just weeks to install. We need to kick them into reopening the roads soon.

On Academy Street an amendment was passed that calls for the scheme there to be replaced by a better arrangement. A press release suggested the council intend the current scheme will remain in place until replaced. The councillor who put in the amendment intended it to be read as the scheme will be cleared and they will look for something better. We need to put pressure on the council to clear the barriers without delay.

The Millburn Road scheme will be modified by shortening the cycle-only lane back to start at the Morrisons store entrance. Vehicles will again have two lanes in to Inverness to that point. That makes it easier for ambulance access etc.

Thank you to those who wrote to councillors and to everyone who signed this petition. Sometimes councillors and officials WILL hear the people cry.
