Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA), Punjab Chapter in its meeting held on June 10, 2020 passed a resolution against the attempts to implement the “PUBLIC SECTOR UNIVERSITIES (AMENDMENT) ACT 2020”. The House was in strong agreement that the Act was politically skewed, developed without any consultation with academia and it intends to curb the autonomy of Universities. This Act would severely reduce the research potential and academic development in Universities.

FAPUASA was united in their resolve to show strong resistance, by faculty across entire Punjab, to any attempts to reduce or compromise the autonomy of Universities. FAPUASA rejects the proposal to appoint retired judges or bureaucrats, as head of Syndicate. The Worthy Vice Chancellors, as Chair and Academicians, as an integral part of University Syndicate, are more than qualified to govern Universities. Finally, FAPUASA proposes that the Higher Education Department and relevant Punjab Ministries/Secretariats should consult with Universities and the elected ASAs for improvement in governance of Universities. The Association further proposes that Act(s) of old/established Universities like the Punjab University and Bahauddin Zakariya University etc. must be promulgated on all Universities of the Punjab for Uniformity.
