An alteration in the criteria for selecting honors

The Issue

As stated on page 45 of the Obsculta, any student is eligible to be a candidate for honors according to the following criteria:

  1. Candidates for honors at any grade level shall be drawn from the top 25 students of the school.
  2. The top 25 students shall be ranked using the 7-3 point scheme.
  3. No grade below 85 in any subject in any quarter.
  4. Have been an active officer or member of one organization.
  5. Have an RHGP grade of not lower than 88 in any quarter.
  6. Have not been subjected to any disciplinary action in the current school year.

Let's focus on this specific condition.

          3.  No grade below 85 in any subject in any quarter.

We, as students of St. Scholastica's Academy, are strongly not for this particular criterion. Our section alone has encountered problems relating to this during the first term. It definitely is unfortunate and a waste that students who industriously work for their grades and actually put effort into their studies fail to become part of the honor roll and aren't given the chance to be recognized by the student body for their hard work even if they managed to meet the standard average just because they have grades lower than 85 in ONE or TWO subjects only.

The aforementioned rule could be changed into:

          3. No grade below 80 in any subject in any quarter.

     or

          3. Only has grades below 85 in two subjects, at maximum, in a quarter.

If this certain rule would be changed, the number of students who still have the chance to be awarded and recognized will greatly increase, making it a win-win situation and a motivation for the students to study even more diligently.
