Stalking is one of the most dangerous behaviours often leading to serious harm, rape, suicide and homicide.
Stalkers steal lives and take lives and when it happens to you it is terrifying.
Gracie Spinks was murdered by Michael Sellars on. Eight other women had made complaints about his behaviour. Sarah Everard was murdered by Wayne Couzens, a police officer, who had a history of stalking women and exposing himself. Alice Ruggles was stalked and murdered by Trimaan Dhillon who had a history of stalking other women.
Stalking is a gateway crime to murder. How many more women and children must die before the Government takes action to ensure these serial perpetrators are proactively identified, assessed and managed just like sex offenders?
Often the perpetrators are male and the victims are female. Sadly, there are many cases where the entitled male abuser escalates to murder and, despite clear warning signs, their violent history was not joined up by police, prisons and probation services. We have to change this.
What change do we want?
- serial and dangerous stalkers to be included on ViSOR - the Violent and Sexual Offenders register and managed by to the Multi-agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA).
- the provision of Independent Stalking Advocacy Caseworkers (ISACs) for victims
People with a history of domestic abuse and stalking are dangerous and devious just like sex offenders. We must make these violent men visible and accountable and you can help.
