Save Hogshaw Green Space
This petition had 5,114 supporters
The green space around Hogshaw, Buxton provides valuable recreation space for local people - dog walkers, children and young people, sports groups, pigeon owners, and many others. It is the old town tip that has now rewilded, providing a habitat for many species of plants, insects, butterflies, moths, mammals and birds. Any housing development in this area would destroy this habitat and recreation space resulting in biodiversity loss, an increase in air pollution and flood risk in an area already at high risk of flooding.
Many of the people who use this green space from Fairfield Road, Hogshaw Villas Road, Lightwood Road, Holmewood Terrace, Brooklands, Nunsfield Road etc do not have gardens and so access to a local green space is essential for physical and mental health.
We are calling on High Peak Borough Council, in line with the declaration of a climate emergency in October 2019, to protect this green space as a valuable community resource; an urban habitat for nature; a carbon store to help mitigate the illegal air pollution levels from nearby Fairfield Road and an area of natural flood defence.
STOP any development proposed for Hogshaw NOW.
