Councillor Jamaal Myers as Chair of Accessibility Advisory Committee has brought forward a motion asking staff to create a handbook for event organizations detailing ways to make their events accessible.
There is no need for a Hand Book to make High Park more accessible..... the City should improve the sidewalks, maintain the trails and allow vehicle access 7 days a week for all....
Please email Councillor_myers@toronto.ca and the Clerk taac@toronto.ca and suggest keeping High Park open and accessible to vehicles seven days a week...Thank you...
AND This just went as a letter to the editor:
High Park Access!
When John Howard and his wife Jemima deeded their country property to the City of Toronto the deed specified that the park remain "for the free use, benefit and enjoyment of the citizens of Toronto and it be called High Park.”
While John Howard requested that the land be kept in a natural state he also designed and installed the existing roadways so the citizens would have free access to all the park lands.
Yes, at that time it was horses and carriages, today it is anything on wheels… including personal vehicles, just like the carriages of old, yet the City plans to deny access to personal vehicles seven days a week.
The walk from High Park Subway accessible elevator to Colborne Lodge is around 2km and then there is the walk back!
John Howard must be turning over in his grave these days as thousands of citizens are turned away. Seniors, families with small children and many disabled persons cannot meet the walking challenges of a 399 acre park.
There is no daily TTC Bus service, is the Shuttle which may or may not appear next May, daily? It is certainly costly at $10.00 per adult, $7.00 for seniors and youths and $5.00 per child.
The City Council needs to re-consider their 2023 decision to close access to High Park.
Write to the mayor_chow@toronto.ca and your Councillor and tell them what you think….
Thank you...
