Mount Hope, West Virginia nestled in the Egypt Valley basin of the New River Gorge Region, offers adventurers a glimpse into what early life was like in the coalfields of West Virginia. The town became known as the Phoenix City due to the ferocity of reconstruction efforts undertaken by area townsfolk after the Great Fire of 1910. The wealth generated from the coal production of the New River Company is still visible in the stone structures lining the streets of this quaint little town.

In May of 2017, the Phoenix City has begun to again reemerge as a city steeped in tradition, but ready to be the bridge that connects the economic region of the New River Gorge National River. Laying between Beckley, West Virginia and Fayetteville, West Virginia this town is POISED to be the center of an artistic and economic revitalization. With an active Historic Landmarks Commission and a city municipality ready to go to work, the town of Mount Hope would be the perfect town to provide the country with a view into HOW revitalization works.
