Heywood Station - deliver a regular train service to Manchester. (Keep ELR services too.)
The Issue
Heywood is the forgotten town. This is a fact.
Heywood over the years has been promised millions in terms of regeneration and as of yet we have seen nothing of these monies that make a difference to the 30,000 that live here.
Delivering a train / tram service would benefit not just those who live here but would boost employment and the economy as those who don't live in the town would want to visit.
Heywood has a market, a civic centre and library, parks / places of nature, lots of different local businesses/eateries and yearly has events such as 1940s day, a charity fete as well as a Christmas light switch on.
We presently have the East Lancashire Railway who provide services ad hoc to Bury or to Ramsbottom but why do we not have a link to our main city centre?
Our roads are absolutely dire and the one present bus service we have takes almost an hour to get to Manchester and if you are a commuter travelling by car it takes longer.
Our council and government are constantly encouraging us to use some form of public transport and I believe a regular train / tram service is the way forward for our town.
People power is everything and I believe with persistence and determination we can make this happen. By signing this petition I can then take this and show to those I have meetings with in the future to say this is what we as a town and a community want.
As well as this petition I have plans for meet ups, photo opportunities and so much more. Positive mindset attitude and a never give up mentality is my forte and I look forward to getting these changes put in place.
