This past December, representatives from 195 countries reached a landmark global agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This is at least one step towards averting a climate catastrophe.

On April 22—Earth Day—U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will host a signing ceremony in New York. This event offers a chance to celebrate a new direction for the planet and for world leaders to publicly show their commitment to climate action. 

The only problem: these heads of state haven’t sent in their RSVPs.

While the actual signing and approving of the Paris Agreement by can be done in-country any time from April 22, 2016, through April 2017, the agreement must be signed by at least 55 countries representing 55 percent of all global emissions by April 2017 for it to come in to force.

Let’s make sure our world leaders uphold their pledges to sign the Paris Agreement.
