In early June the Gage County Nebraska Board with support of the Sheriff voted to allow K9 Buster to retire early so he could stay with his handler who was switching agencies. They agreed to sell Buster to Deputy Coltin Babensee for $250. The Gage Sheriff's Department hand no other handler and no K9 budget to keep Buster. The K9 program was disbanded.

Two weeks later the County Board rescinded their decision and demanded Buster be returned. There is no real plan for buster. He will likely be kenneled until sold like a surplus piece of equipment.
