Get us back in our family home of 18 years

Help my family get back into our family home of 18 years

My dad was a residential senior caretaker for 13 years with a clean work record and he was well liked, respected and a valued member of staff. Dad genuinely enjoyed his job. With dads job came a 3 bedroom bungalow. Our family had to leave our lives in London and move to Hertfordshire for this job. In 2014 there was a change in management and dad was bullied and harassed within the workplace until he had a mental breakdown. Dad was signed off sick from work in 2015. Our dad tried to take his own life.  During this time dad was dismissed from work and a notice to quit our home was served.

Dad never got a tribunal as the solicitor being used went into liquidation and deadlines was missed. Mum And Dad have been fighting for our home ever since. We’ve been back and forth with court for 5 years now.

On Monday our family was unlawfully evicted. We are a family of 6, my mum and dad, 21 year old sister, myself at 19, my brother is 15 and the youngest brother is 12. We have now been given 2 rooms in a ‘hotel’ in Great Dunmow. We have no kitchen facilities and no washing facilities. Whose paying for the takeaways whilst we can’t cook? We haven’t even got a mini fridge for milk.  My brothers can’t go to school. My sister and I have to travel for work therefore using our petrol and not earning.

When we moved in to the bungalow it was in an unsuitable living condition. Our dad has refurbished every room and is currently  in the process on decorating  the hallway. He completely re done the kitchen. We also have paid for any repairs out  of our own pocket, as it is our home. We have had the boiler landlord gas safety checked every year for the past 5 years at a cost to us.  There has been no duty of care from our landlord, Hertfordshire County Council.

Our long term family pets are with friends as we couldn’t take them with us on Monday. My brother is sleeping on a mattress on the floor in the same room as me and my sister. My youngest brother has recently been having counselling and is suffering with anxiety. This trauma has really hit with his anxiety and he has not stopped crying nor has he slept.

We are still grieving the loss of our grandparents. My parents are currently emotional wrecks and we are worried about their mental health. Mum hasn’t been sleeping or eating since Monday and has non stopped cried.  All of this is happening whilst our home of 18 years is sitting empty.

We know our home is to be sold. why can’tour home but be sold to a local housing association, a private landlord with us as sitting tenants? We have offered to pay the going social rent. Many would say it is not an ideal home, we are situated at school exit gates where there is a lot of people walking past our home. It suits us, there has never been as issue with this and neither will there ever be. This could pose as a threat when trying to sell our family home, where as we know it and more importantly people know us and know my parents are in no way a threat to any child.  This is the home we have memories with our beloved nan and granddad as well as past pets. We can still remember them coming round for a cuppa and sitting with us in the living room.

Some say memories last longer than materialistics however we want to keep these memories alive by seeing them in our home.

This is not fair and we have been treated Inhumanely. At least let us home until we find suitable safe accommodation. My dad currently works full time in his new job which he has to work hard for even whilst he is a blue badge holder. My dad has had a lot of problems and operations with his back which also made us have adaptations to the house to suit his needs this includes a wetroom bathroom.

To top it all off today is my dads 50th birthday. We are sat here as I’m writing this in a tiny room with just a bed, nothing to make breakfast for him or even a coffee and he hasn’t even woke up in a decent bed. We’ve tried to make the day the best we can for him as he deserves the world and we aren’t willing to have his birthday taken off him as well as his home.

We all feel empty as we feel we’ve lost everything. It has been stolen from us unlawfully.
