Close Herricks School District due to COVID-19

Close Herricks School District due to COVID-19
The Issue
The coronavirus (COVID-19) has plagued Long Island and even more specifically Nassau County in the recent days. As of this writing, there are a total of 1707 cases of COVID-19 in the New York State, 140 of which are in Nassau County and hundreds in mandatory quarantine. The numbers are predicted to grow exponentially in coming days.
There are a number of neighboring schools currently closed in Long Island and throughout NY area due to this contagious virus. Isolation and social distance are extremely effective in controlling the spreading of this pandemic. Masks and hand sanitizers are only precautionary measures, but they cannot completely protect one from being infected. A temporary suspension is the best way! Interaction, especially in a closed place like school, can quickly lead to a dead chain of infection! This disease has a waiting period of at least 14 days, where no symptoms will be shown but the virus will keep spreading. Waiting to take actions until a confirmed case occur would be too late. We must respond to this coronavirus proactively.
Herricks School Districts, please consider online schooling or any similar sort of education experience until further notice for the safety our students, teachers, staff, as well as our family members at home. It is imminent that as a community we take action to prevent the spread of this disease. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Thank You!
