THE STORY:

On May 3, 19 multiple calls were made to 911 reporting a dog was being DRAGGED behind a truck that was traveling on Northcliffe Boulevard in Spring Hill (a very busy road!). The witnesses that called observed that the dog was TIED to the truck’s bumper by a piece of rope that was attached to his collar.

THANKFULLY  the dog, a 1-year-old pit bull terrier mix, was able to free himself from the collar. The injuries this dog sustained are terrible! Although the dog is expected to make a full recovery, a slap on the wrist of a misdemeanor is NOT acceptable! If the dog was NOT able to free himself, he would've met a fatal demise. Would there be more uproar then? WHY was the dog tied to the bumper if enclosed in the bed of the truck? Was the tailgate open? DID this man NOT HEAR the dog yelping/barking? Does he not check his rear-view mirror while driving? Did any of the witnesses try to grab his attention to pull over?

Witnesses said it  APPEARS the owner Gregory Tousignant was "unaware" the dog had jumped out of the bed of his truck. "It is illegal to carry any pet in the bed of a truck that is not properly secured and prevented from jumping out of a moving vehicle." With that said, on 5/8/19, County Judge Kristie Ruppe issued a warrant for Tousignant’s arrest on a MISDEMEANOR charge of Cruelty to Animals, which carries a $1,000 bond.

This is one of many things wrong with our justice system.
