I don't need to explain to local Pacers fans the impact Slick had on the Indiana basketball community, and the Indiana Pacers franchise as a whole.

To those unaware of Slick's legacy, he was a legendary ABA & NBA Head Coach of the Indiana Pacers, leading them to 3 ABA Titles in 4 years from 1969-1973. With an overall coaching record of 573-534, he holds the title for most wins for any Indiana Pacers head coach. In 1953, he sealed IU's second National Championship with a game sealing free throw against North Carolina. 

Most importantly, he saved the Indiana Pacers franchise from potentially leaving the state. In 1977, the Indiana Pacers were on the brink of a financial collapse, and were likely to be sold and moved out of Indiana. Slick, and his wife Nancy, successfully hosted a telethon to save the team. 

Slick was probably the most important figure in Indiana Pacers history, and deserves to have his legacy cemented for past, present, and future fans to appreciate.
