A Petition to Allow Surfing at Charleston County Beaches

The Issue

CALL TO ACTION to stop the unreasonable Recreational Water Access Restriction against the Charleston County Local Surfing and Water Sports Community.

We, the undersigned, respectfully ask the elected officials of SC state and Charleston County, to immediately repeal the recreational water access restriction that was placed against the persons of the surfing community in Charleston County. We the undersigned agree to: arrive, surf, and leave. We will not be loitering or spending time on the beach. We understand that if we are observed by public safety officials sunbathing or loitering on the beach we will be subject to removal and a citation.

Surfing in and of itself is a "social distancing" activity. Surfers naturally stay at least 10 feet of one another while surfing.

Surfing is a recreational watersport that will allow area residents to have exercise and continue to nourish their mental health during these uncertain times.

It is now, more than ever, that surfers need access to the ocean.

We are requesting Charleston area officials and SC state officials to lift the ban on surfing in Charleston County now, since this is an independent and socially distanced sport.
