On January 16, 2012 a student in Chicago was bullied and severely beaten by seven students. The video is horrific and hard to watch.
It shows the six teens mercilessly beating and tormenting an Asian man while one of them films. They steal his money, shoes, and backpack. They throw sucker punches and kick him while he is down, laughing and saying things like “Am I speaking Chinese to you, nigga?”
This example of extreme violence and bullying cannot be tolerated in the city of Chicago. These young criminals must be held accountable for their actions and steps should be taken to educate young people about the dangers of bullying.
Please join us in calling on the Chicago Police Department to arrest and charge all seven students involved with the beating and for their schools to hold them accountable. We're also asking that Chicago Public Schools establish an anti-bullying course that all seven students attend before being allowed back to school.
The attackers in the video are:
- Chicago Public Schools
- Chicago Police Department
I’m writing you today to ask that you take action regarding the January 16, 2012 beating of a student in Chicago.
Seven teens beat a defenseless Asian student and filmed the entire attack and it has been seen by hundreds of thousands of outraged people. The attackers stole his money and shoes. Throughout the attack they made fun of him for being Asian. One of the attackers threatened to kill him.
We are calling on the Chicago Police Department to arrest all seven students involved with the beating and for their schools to expel them. We're also asking that Chicago Public Schools establish an anti-bullying course that all seven students attend before being allowed back to school.
Please take action to help keep Chicago’s schools safe for all students. Young people shouldn’t have to be afraid of being attacked because of their race. We are counting on you to hold these criminals accountable.
