The Issue

My family's lives were changed forever the day that my brother Corey Childress, an innocent man driving home, became the victim of an incomprehensible act of violence. A man named Anthony Munoz who is gang affiliated and has no regard for human life cruelly took his away from us. A man who not only killed my brother but also recklessly endangered the lives of others, shooting into other innocent people's homes at the same time, homes with children inside.

This remorseless individual has been offered a plea deal that could see him receiving a prison sentence of less than ten years. The devastating loss of my brother and the reckless endangerment of innocent people's lives deserve a punishment far exceeding a ten-year sentence. In the U.S., the average sentence for first-degree murder is life in prison without the possibility of parole. This clearly contrasts with the plea deal at hand. (Source: Bureau of Justice Statistics)

This man has committed violent acts in the past and will commit them again. We implore the judge to reconsider the plea deal. Let the punishment fit the crime. Our lost loved one deserves justice, and the community deserves safety. Such light sentencing for heinous actions only signals to potential offenders that their actions have minor consequences, thus threatening the safety of us all.

Deny the plea deal. Bring justice for my brother and the innocent bystanders who have suffered because of this man's brutality. Please sign this petition to show your support for our fight for rightful justice.
