Help Veterans with PTSD Gain Access to Service Dogs
The Issue
As a veteran of the United States Army that suffers from post traumatic stress disorder, I feel that not all the tools are being offered through the VA to help our returning veterans and soldiers deal with this devastating disorder. I have stumbled upon a tool specifically that is cheaper than medication and provides a real benefit to the veteran and their family directly. PTSD service dogs.
Not only would these dogs help the veteran with their PTSD, they can also help mend relationship problems and offer a sense of support to veterans who may feel that they are alone. Most of these dogs are also rescued from local animal shelters. Not only does this reduce the financial and spatial burden of animals from these shelters but it may also save the life of that dog.
Veterans are an integral part of our community. Making sure that they return home fully, will help keep our communities strong. A service dog has been shown to provide an undeniable benefit to veterans and their families. If you could save the life of a dog and a veteran at the same time, how much money would that be worth? To us, its priceless.
