Not a Done Deal and media coverage

Hello everyone, just wanted to touch base.  Lots has happened in the past week.

I wanted to assure everyone that the proposed changes for the Lighthouse grounds and Shoop Park are not a ‘done deal’.  I’ve heard people saying this in and off since I first started working on this last October.  It came up again when a reporter I was working with published something that gave the impression that the City of Racine had already given a go ahead for the project.  Here is a communication I received on October 23rd from the Mayor’s office stating clearly that if this proposal passed in Wind Point, it will still need to be voted on in Racine:

Dear Ms. Sorenson,

“Thank you for sharing your detailed concerns and information regarding the Shoop Park proposal. I wanted to provide a summary of the current status based on input from the City Clerk’s Office and our Parks and Recreation Department. Earlier this year, the Racine Common Council approved an agreement with Johnson/Leipold and the Kieser Golf Group to develop a golf course design and business plan for Shoop Park. This agreement was initially for six months, with the possibility of a six-month extension, which the Council subsequently approved. The contract is currently expected to run through approximately March/April 2026.

To be clear, no approval has been granted for any changes to the Shoop Park Golf Course, and the Council has not authorized anyone to take over or expand the park. Any future proposals for alterations—including expanding to 12 holes, using lighthouse grounds for parking or a clubhouse, or other modifications—would require review and approval by the City of Racine, since the park is city-owned property.

We appreciate your engagement on this matter and encourage continued public input as the process moves forward.”
