At Cobourg Collegiate Institute, on June 14th 2022, a male teacher, Mr Mack, entered the female washroom without warning. This is not okay. He was not accompanied by a female teacher, a police officer or took any action to finding a female to enter the bathroom for him. The issue at hand was a squirrel in the bathroom, in which a female teacher was already in the washroom with the student and squirrel. This is not the first time that a male teacher has disrespected the rights and privacy of the female students at cci. Mr Mack made no effort to ask the female staff members who sit in the office ACROSS FROM THE BATHROOM IN WHICH THIS OCCURRED IN, to verify that there was no one in the bathroom. We also have a female school officer who is usually available in the same area as well. This petition was made in order to take action against this specific teacher and any others who think it is okay to enter our washrooms without the permission of students inside the bathroom or without an accompanying female teacher/staff member. This goes both ways as well, if any female teachers are to enter the male washrooms, they should and will be called out on it as this takes away the rights and privacies of any student who uses the washrooms, which is everyone.
