As you may have seen featured on BBC Breakfast, Daily Politics, 5 Live and the News Channel last week we've launched our UK election ad review called Illegal, Indecent, Dishonest And Untruthful, How Political Advertising In The 2019 General Election Let Us Down. Read the full report here https://reformpoliticaladvertising.org/illegal-indecent-dishonest-and-untruthful-how-political-advertising-in-the-2019-general-election-let-us-down/
The review, the first of its kind as far as we are aware, shows examples of misleading advertising from all the main parties. We've included in it suggestion for what we believe the solutions are.
We’ve also conducted Yougov research that shows that the public overwhelmingly supports rules being put in place for misleading claims in political ads. 87% of adults thought that ‘it should be a legal requirement that factual claims in political adverts must be accurate’ referenced in the review.
We need your support to continue our work to prevent lies in political ads!
The Coalition for Reform in Political Advertising is (believe it or not) almost the only organisation pressing for rules to prevent misleading claims and lies in political ads.
Please donate to our newly set up crowdfunding page if you like what we've been doing during the election. We are looking for some very modest funding to take the campaign into 2020 and to capitalise on the awareness we've raised over the last few weeks.
We are run by unpaid volunteers and don't have third party funding which makes us a truly neutral voice on the topic.
Unfortunately there has been no better case study on the need for urgent change than this election. Please donate here https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/reform-political-advertising
If you'd like to know more about the campaign before donating please contact us at alex.tait@reformpoliticaladvertising.org. We'd be more than happy to answer any questions.
