Living near George Lake in Spicer, Minnesota is a privilege. However, it comes with a growing concern for the safety of our homeowners and their visitors. Our roads are situated closely to residential houses, and every day, residents face the anxiety of cars speeding by as they back out of their driveways.  Some homeowners access to the lake requires crossing County Road 32.  With speeding traffic, increased activity at the boat access, walkers and bikers, the chances for a serious accident increases.

Implementing a lower speed limit is not just a suggestion; it's a necessary measure to ensure the safety of all residents and visitors alike.

Statistics show that reducing speed limits in residential areas significantly decreases the likelihood of traffic incidents. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, lowering speed limits can reduce the chances of fatal accidents by up to 45%. This statistic reinforces the urgency of our call for change.

We propose that the Kandiyohi County Highway Department reduce the speed limit to 40mph on County Road 9 from County Road 10 North to County Road 32 and reduce the speed limit to 30mph on County Road 32 along the North side of George Lake.  This action will protect residents, visitors, and provide peace of mind to families.
