Help Us Help Our Veterans & Disabled People Stay Housed
Help Us Help Our Veterans & Disabled People Stay Housed
The Issue
Our petition is designed to raise awareness about the potential loss of funding for Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH). Our targets are Dallas/Fort Worth social workers, homeless-service providers, PSH residents/veterans and the communities. We aim to collect 500+ signatures.
Help us protect our homeless and enable homelessness recovery for the chronically homeless and disabled citizens in our community. The US Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) FY2027 budget request proposes $4.024 billion for homeless assistance—$393 million below FY2026 enacted funding—and requests no funding for the Continuum of Care program or construction of new Permanent Supportive Housing. (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. (2026). 2027 congressional justifications. HUD FY 2027 Congressional Justifications)
Without programs like Permanent Supportive Housing our homeless, disabled citizens, including veterans are unable to recover from homelessness and become self-sufficient, which in turn will reduce homelessness overall.
The most contradictory part of the government wanting to basically do away with PSH is that under HUD guidelines, PSH is currently under to Continuum of Care (CoC) program which is intended to promote community wide efforts to reduce homelessness and optimize self-sufficiency, while HUD intends to focus on underlying causes of homelessness. (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. (2026, April 30). HUD moving forward on bold homelessness reform. HUD) (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. (2026, June 1). HUD overhauls federal homelessness assistance. HUD)
How can you help, you ask? The first small step towards implementing a huge change in your community is to sign this petition to keep and continue homelessness recovery efforts going forward.
