Nearly 2 years ago, on September 27, 2024, Towa Bird released her hit single “Rat Race” on streaming platforms following several social media teasers. In it, Towa Bird uses an upbeat melody and electric guitar riffs to mimic the sensation of running to meet expectations, portrayed as the finish line of a “rat race,” to convey stress and angst as the speaker is treated like a pawn in a game.
Since then, not only have we greatly enjoyed the song’s rhythm and instrumental components, many fans of Towa Bird have grown to deeply appreciate a song that makes us feel seen in our effort to meet ever-changing standards. I speak from personal experience when I say that music portraying a relatable struggle can be immensely helpful in making one realize they aren’t alone. In a world that is actively stripping away civil rights and protections from marginalized communities, finding solidarity and support has never been more important.

Recently, Towa Bird opened the tour for her sophomore album, Gentleman, by headlining a show at The Independent in San Francisco. We could not be more proud!
Many fans were unfortunately distraught to find “Rat Race” missing from the setlist. On a lighter note, we know Towa and most of her fans are chronically online, so let’s hope that this petition reaches HQ :)

If you’re still reading, thank you and please support us by signing the petition to get “Rat Race” back on the setlist!
