Help us get justice for Tiffany Borre

The Issue

My sister, Tiffany Borre, was killed by a driver in March of this year. The driver fled the scene, but the accident happened in a major area. CCTV footage was found to determine what vehicle, including the license plate, struck and killed Tiffany.

The Cook County police impounded the vehicle the very next day and the owner of the vehicle had already lawyered up and was pleading the 5th. The Cook County police performed a seatbelt buckle swab of the vehicle, since, according to the police, the video showed the car hitting her, but not who was driving it. The DNA came back a match to the owner of the vehicle/suspect and NO ONE ELSES.

When the police presented their case, to pursue a charge of fleeing the scene of a fatal accident, the Cook County State's Attorney declined to press charges. This is an ongoing problem in Cook County, the State's Attorney declining to pick up charges in a felony case with DNA evidence.

It’s getting worse. Our request for FOIA (specifically the video of her being struck) is being held in contingency of us signing a waiver of liability so we can’t sue the state, the cook county sheriffs office or the person who they clearly know killed my sister. They said it’s on video at multiple angles but refuse to release it to us unless we sign away our right to pursue legal justice. Also, the CSI report they gave us had the results of the DNA test the police already told us came back a match to him completely redacted.

We also found out this morning that the suspects mother used to work for the Cook County jail and IDHS. She is currently a high ranking administrator for Gateway.

I believe they are trying to protect the man who killed my sister in law. Please help us get justice for my sister and our family.
