A little about my Grandfather...

Mr. Ronald Nardone was the longtime director of recreation for the Borough of Bernardsville, starting as a volunteer in 1968 before becoming full-time recreation director a short time later. He implemented many recreation and leisure programs in the borough before retiring several years ago. Ron was also a baseball coach in the Bernardsville Babe Ruth League many years ago.

Born on Dec. 10, 1933, in Morristown, Mr. Nardone was a lifelong resident of Bernardsville. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in parks and recreation at Fairleigh Dickinson University. He was also a lifetime member of the St. Elizabeth Council No. 2393 Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Nardone battled five different cancers throughout his life and those around him were given the gift of his courage in facing adversity and the way in which he handled his physical battles with dignity, grace and humor.

He loved his work in the bakery and many in the area will recall fondly the wonderful wedding and birthday cakes, and baked goods from Nardone’s Bakery.

He also loved implementing the many recreation programs for the Borough of Bernardsville, delighting in the happiness people enjoyed in the programs for all ages and the many trips that he ran to the theater, ballgames, concerts and other venues.
