Help Transform a Historic House into a Community Center of the Future

Help Transform a Historic House into a Community Center of the Future
The Issue
Did you know that more than 1 in 10 Canadians feel lonely often or always, according to Statistics Canada?
Loneliness and social isolation are real and growing challenges in Canada, especially for seniors, newcomers, families, and youth.
At A Better Future For All, a non-profit organization based in North York (Ontario), we work closely with these groups every day. Through programs like our Posiden’ki Social Club for Ukrainian seniors, we’ve already helped many people reconnect, make friends, and feel a sense of belonging.
But today, our ability to grow and support more people is limited as we don’t have a dedicated space.
A Unique Opportunity Right in Our Neighborhood
Right in the heart of our community sits the historic Elihu Pease House (20 Harrison Garden Blvd), a beautiful heritage building that has been largely unused for the last 5 years, surrounded by thousands of residents.
We are proposing to transform this space into a Community Center of the Future - a vibrant, welcoming hub designed to bring people together.
Imagine a Place Where Everyone Belongs
A place where:
- Seniors can connect and feel less alone
- Families and children can participate in activities close to home
- Newcomers can find support and community
- Neighbors can meet, create, and build friendships
- This center will blend social support, cultural programming, education, and live events, all tailored to the needs of the local community.
What the Center Will Offer
Connection & Community
- Social clubs for seniors, families, and newcomers
- Intergenerational programs and gatherings
- Drop-in activities throughout the day
- Creative & Cultural Programming
Arts, crafts, music, and workshops
- Cultural events, performances, and celebrations
- Guest speakers, film nights, and community discussions
- Practical & Innovative Services
A Fix-It Studio to repair small household items
- Skill-sharing and working sessions
- Community kitchen and collaborative activities
- Opportunities for Local Residents
Part-time work and teaching opportunities
- Volunteer roles for seniors and community members
- A space to share skills, talents, and ideas
Why This Matters
This house is perfectly located — surrounded by condo buildings and within walking distance for thousands of residents, yet there is no similar community space nearby.
Instead of sitting empty, it can become a living, breathing hub of connection, support, and creativity.
What We Are Asking
We are calling on decision-makers to support the use of the Elihu Pease House as a community center and enable our organization to operate it for public benefit.
