Help The Weeknd Rename the Rogers Centre back to SkyDome: Sign the Petition
The Issue
The recent concerts by our own The Weeknd at the stadium have reignited the nostalgia for many of us who remember cheering for the Blue Jays at the SkyDome. He’s openly advocated for reverting the name as well, making this a perfect moment to collectively voice our desires. The Weeknd has requested a petition be made to encourage the name change, and here it is!
Initially opened in 1989 as the SkyDome, this iconic structure was the first stadium in the world to have a fully retractable roof, and it quickly became a symbol of innovation and pride for Toronto. However, despite its cultural significance, in 2005, the SkyDome was renamed to Rogers Centre. While change is often inevitable, some names hold sentimental value and historical significance that warrant preservation. The name SkyDome is deeply embedded in the hearts of Torontonians and represents a legacy that formed part of our collective childhoods and community spirit.
Adopting the original name once again would allow us to honour the stadium's rich heritage and give new generations the chance to understand its importance in Toronto’s history. By signing this petition, we urge local authorities to consider our request and bring back a cherished piece of our city’s legacy. Let's come together and express our longing for this beloved name and what it signifies.
Please, join me in this simple yet meaningful endeavor by signing this petition. Stand with Toronto, and let’s restore the Skydome for not only us but for all future generations to cherish and enjoy.
