Over the summer, every student at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School received an email that changed the fabric of our school community. Our deans and guidance counselor, with whom we have shared our high school journey, were reassigned with no prior warning or consultation. I, like many other students, was shocked and frustrated by this decision.

The bond we develop with deans throughout our school years is irreplaceable. These are the individuals we approached for guidance, trusting them with our concerns and aspirations. Their sudden reassignment disrupts this vital connection and the sense of security they provide. In an environment where feeling safe, protected, and cared for is paramount, removing our trusted guides creates an unnecessary burden on us, the students.

Peabody Public Schools have always emphasized the importance of student well-being and community spirit. Yet, this decision seems contrary to these values. Not only does it dismiss the emotional impact on students, but it also disregards the continuity essential for our academic and personal growth.

Superintendent, school committee, and city council, we urge you to reconsider this decision. Acknowledge the voices of the students who stand behind their administrators. It's not just about academic leadership; it's about the relationships and trust that have been nurtured over these formative years.
