Help The Pollinators!

Help The Pollinators!
The Issue
Tell Durham County Council to stop excessive weed spraying and grass cutting!
One out of every three mouthfuls of our food depends on pollinators. It is almost impossible to over-emphasise the importance of the service pollinators perform for us.
Yet we are decimating them at an alarming rate:
> Half of our 27 bumblebee species are in decline.
> Three of these bumblebee species have already gone extinct.
> Seven bumblebee species have declined by more than 50% in the last 25 years.
>Two-thirds of our moths and 71% of our butterflies are in long term decline.
Our pollinators rely on the early blooms of dandelions, daisies and other wild flowers and we have already seen the council out cutting and spraying, resulting in dead bees littering the pavements.
Please sign this petition to be presented to Durham County Council to show that not all local residents want "tidy lawns" everywhere. In the spirit of No Mow May we will be suggesting the council outline No Mow Zones. There are loads of green spaces that could be left wild / have a wild patch left. Let's give nature a chance and enjoy some beautiful wildflowers!
