Help Stray Kids by stopping toxic fan behavior
Help Stray Kids by stopping toxic fan behavior
The Issue
Stray Kids is more than just a music group to many of us. During my darkest times, their music and their bond as a team were my biggest support system. Like many STAYs, I want to see them happy, healthy, and successful for years to come.
However, we are seeing an increase in extreme "shipping" and the sexualization of their friendships. While fans often mean no harm, this behavior has crossed a line. It creates a visible discomfort for the members, making them hesitant to interact naturally on camera for fear of how a simple hug or glance will be edited and made bad Constant scrutiny of their private friendships puts immense pressure on the members' mental well-being.
When idols feel uncomfortable or "watched" within their own group, it creates tension. History shows that extreme fan interference and "sasaeng-like" shipping culture can lead to members distancing themselves or, in worst-case scenarios, contributing to a group’s decision to disband earlier than planned.
Stray Kids are artists first. Their focus should be on their music and their craft, not navigating uncomfortable fan fantasies that distort their real-life brotherhood.
Our Goal
We are petitioning JYP Entertainment to take a firmer stance on protecting the members' boundaries and for the fandom to self-regulate. We want a healthy environment where Stray Kids feels safe to be themselves.
The Ask
To STAYsStop creating and sharing "NSFW" or highly invasive shipping content that sexualizes the members' friendships.
To JYP Entertainment: Explicitly acknowledge the importance of member privacy and mental health in relation to fan-created content in future "Fan Etiquette" updates.
