Help stop the SPCA from innocent killings

The Issue

Karen Cunningham- St. Lawrence Valley SPCA’s board president put out several statements on September 28th 2022 during a 7 news interview regarding the shelter. In the article, it talks about how Cunningham refused Best Friends Animal Society’s offer to help the SPCA with funding, programmatic support. Cunningham also accused Best Friends Society of harassment. Best Friends never harassed anyone. They simply want to save healthy animals’ lives unlike Cunningham. The article continues on saying how, The St Lawrence Valley SPCA has one of the highest kill rates in New York State. Nearly 90 percent of the cats and dogs taken in by the St. Lawrence Valley SPCA wind up being euthanized. Yes, healthy ones too. Cunningham claims “We can’t save them all, but we do the best we can when we can,”

BUT she could save them, she could help them if she herself accepted help from other agencies. So much more could be done for these animals. This makes me sick and something needs to be done. Hopefully getting signatures will help bring attention to these issues. The SPCA needs as much help as they can get. PLEASE sign this petition and help me turn the SPCA into a no-kill shelter.

You also might be curious how the St. Lawrence Valley SPCA compares to other shelters in the north country. The Jefferson County SPCA and Lewis County Humane Society are no-kill shelters. They also don’t take in every animal brought to them, while the one near Ogdensburg does.
