For me, this petition has a personal meaning. My dog nearly met a terrible end in an animal center after enduring horrible cruelty at the hands of prior owners. Numerous other dogs who encounter brutal treatment have a similar story, which is all too common. 

Nearly 6.5 million pets are thought to enter American animal shelters annually, and a significant percentage of these animals have experienced abuse or neglect. The US Department of Agriculture failed to do their job at protecting puppies in puppy mills, leaving them helpless. However in 2019 president Trump had tried to help this cruelty by signing the Federal Animal Cruelty bill into a law called the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act. This act hopes to prevent animal cruelty by carrying penalties for up to 7 years in prison if caught conducting animal abuse.

We need to put an end to this kind of suffering. Instead of the harsh, cold reality of brutality, these vulnerable creatures should only experience love and compassion. Such distress should never be endured by any animal. Thus, we implore legislators to pass stronger laws prohibiting animal abuse and to punish violators more severely.
