Hello,
My name is Diane Bousquet, Ceremony Carrier and Community Firekeeper. From July 28 to August 1, I completed a 4-day ceremonial fast — including 2.5 days without water — outside the Manitoba Professional Planners Institute (MPPI) in Winnipeg.
The fast was held in sacred response to the documented actions of professional planner John Wintrup, who surveilled Indigenous ceremonies, divided lodge carriers, and helped pursue legal injunctions against sacred space — without due process or proper consultation.
MPPI has delayed meaningful action for nearly three months. While I fasted in ceremony, their Executive Director went on vacation a telling sign of a professional presented with ceremony.
I would be willing to speak with media about this fast, the complaint process, and the larger issue of how Indigenous sacred spaces are treated. Today I wrote the Truth and Reconciliation commission.
In strength,
Diane Bousquet
And now I rest.
