Help Stop Colorado Law Makers From Doing Away with Nonprofit Animal Cruelty Investigators
The Issue
Representative Wes Mckinley of Colorado is proposing House Bill 1063 which aims to do away with nonprofit animal cruelty investigators. Last year, approximately 75% of animal abuse cases were investigated by nonprofit organizations. The passing of this bill would mean a devastating blow to Colorado animals, leaving them at the mercy of abusive and neglectful owners. Only government employees such as city police, sheriff and animal control agencies would be lawfully able to investigate animal cruelty cases. Moreover, this bill would make it even more difficult for already underfunded nonprofit organizations to recover the costs of caring for sick and injured animals. This monetary loss would force these nonprofits to return animals to their abusive owners if they are not officially convicted of abuse or neglect in court.
