Help stop another way our quality of life is in jeopardy in Vallejo CA
The Issue
Petition to Address Persistent Foul Odors from what we're told is from the Vallejo Wastewater Treatment Facilities (this is the cities excuse at least 🤷🏻♀️)
To the Vallejo Wastewater District, City of Vallejo Officials, and Solano County Health Department:
We, the undersigned residents of Vallejo, California, urgently call upon local authorities and the Vallejo Wastewater District to take immediate and comprehensive action to address the persistent and worsening foul odors emanating from the wastewater treatment facilities in our community.
Background:
Over the past year, the residents living in and near Monterey St & Curtola Parkway, have experienced an intolerable and pervasive foul smell. Despite prior unrealistic notifications regarding potential odors from the water treatment plant many months ago that stated it would be short lived, the situation has significantly deteriorated, and has become unacceptable, it has severely impacting our quality of life and raising serious health concerns.
Health Concerns:
The odors, often described as reminiscent of sewage or decaying organic matter, have led to numerous health complaints, including: Respiratory issues such as coughing, shortness of breath, and throat irritation.
Headaches, dizziness, and nausea.
Increased stress and anxiety due to the constant presence of unpleasant smells.
Potential long-term health effects for vulnerable populations, including children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing respiratory conditions.
Environmental Impact: The ongoing odor issue not only affects human health but also raises concerns about the environmental impact on our local ecosystem. Proper management and mitigation of wastewater treatment processes are crucial to preserving the health of our community and environment.
Our Demands: Immediate Investigation and Mitigation: Conduct a thorough investigation to identify the sources of the foul odors and implement immediate measures to mitigate them.
Transparency and Communication: Provide regular updates and transparent communication to residents about the steps being taken to resolve the issue.
Long-term Solutions: Invest in infrastructure upgrades and modern technologies to prevent future occurrences and ensure the wastewater treatment facilities operate without causing harm to residents and the environment.
Health Monitoring: Establish health monitoring programs to assess the impact of the odors on residents and provide necessary healthcare support.
We believe that our health, well-being, and environment should be prioritized. We urge the Vallejo Wastewater District and local authorities to take swift and effective action to eliminate the foul odors and restore a safe and pleasant living environment for all residents of Vallejo.
